The doormen in my parents condo building saw it all - the good and the not so good. They were witnesses to our mother’s descent into dementia hell in the form of Lewy Body. They all felt so badly. We so appreciated their kindness and understanding until it became far too difficult to deal with her.

It feels as if the heartache that has shaped your life has also been the means by which you have understood how to enrich it. You have chosen your families well and I can imagine how you have in turn made their lives better.

My favourite definition of family is —a family is who they say they are. That certainly leaves room for a lot of meaningful connections. Thanks for sharing this story
