Ahhh...your story reminds me of a pair of hand-made leather shoes I bought just past the Ponte Vecchio over twenty years ago. They're still in my closet - only worn on the most special of occasions. What is it about Italy and things we can touch? Handbags, ties, shoes, and cars just to name a few. Italian design and craftsmanship is something special and I thank you for triggering those happy reflections. I no longer have the wife, but the shoes and I will never part.

I still treasure the Florentine leather change purse my aunt and uncle brought back for me in the early fifties. I thought it was such an elegant grown-up gift.

Even the simplest of items can hold a trove of meaning and memories. I've been "lightening my load" for a few years now and only a few things do I regret letting go of. Ah, but this red bag, this is a keeper!
