My dog romance started when I was in fourth grade, with a mutt named Bubba, and your story reminded me of him and brought a distant smile to my face. I've been hesitant to get another dog, but after reading your piece, I think I might be missing out.

Wiping away tears as I recall each of my "best friends" who are gone -- Emmett, Daisy, Daybreak, Gracie, DoodleBug, and Watson. The last day is so hard, but the memories and the special friendship stay in your heart forever.

What a beautiful piece of writing, that reminds me of the love I have for my two rascals. (The photo also reminds me of my own car-surfing dog!) Our dogs can be the most loyal of friends. Max sounds like he was the best.
