Fully agree with you regarding the desire to affix nice-looking/different stamps on envelopes. this is what I try to do all the time - although, have you noticed that booklets of 10 stamps last much longer than they used to do? fortunately, we no longer have to add one or 2 cents stamps whenever the price of stamps increases!
My father was very friendly but he was also very self contained. I am almost finished your book. I love the stories and your writing style! I think your father as a successful business person was probably friendly too, and as you say stamps were a way to be alone. Anyway wonderful book --depth, emotion, tenderness and insight. Kudos.
Thank you! I think you get a feeling for my father's retiring side in the story "Paleolithic Father's Day." The demands of sociability sometimes wore him out.
As soon as my roll of permanent stamps is finished, I will only buy beautiful stamps!
Yay! A convert.
I wish I had known your father.

I too love beautiful stamps .. our choices here are limited … your dad found his passion !!!
It's as if you wrote a piece about MY father. I always thought his philately was a way to be alone.

Lovely story about your dad, Alice. I like the part about you at Parliament Hill. Lucky you! What a memorable day.
