Dear readers and Alice, it has done my heart much good to see that the essay resonated so deeply with so many. FYI, it's an excerpt from Midlife Solo, my new book of essays. If you liked that one, you might like at least some of the others.

Being a gardener, this spoke to me on so many levels. My garden, like yours and Dorothy's, is a haven every day. And your garden now is perfection.

Thank you so much for such a poignant post.

I have been given cuttings from friends and family, all mature now, that create my garden of memories. Lovely story and beautiful garden. Thank you.

Another beautiful story! Thank you Beth and Alice. The garden looks amazing. 💕Mitch Albom, author of Tuesdays with Morrie, said in an interview “Death ends a life but not a relationship.” I thought of that quote after I read this piece.

Your garden is lovely and soothing. It must be a gift to yourself every day as well as a reminder of a special friend. I am reminded of the woman who lived next door to me when I was a new housewife. Alice taught me to have a flower garden and now sixty years later and even though I live in an apartment - there are flowers in pots on the patio.
