Wonderful, Alice!

Sometimes I just walk through my rooms telling myself the story of every piece of art, every plate. I really resonate with your accessing memory through objects.

I also struggle with having all these objects that I love. Yet they are tied to all these memories as you say.

Alice, you have captured so beautifully your morning rituals and they bear such a strong resemblance to mine. Like Jonathan, I tend to rise very early, but I don’t go off to the gym! Like you, I start with a very strong coffee made in an aero press, but in my case it’s just black. I too get Heather Cox Richardson’s daily emails and then I do a daily solitaire, the NYT mini crossword, spelling bee, and Wordle. I love the peace and stillness of those early hours and I treasure the rituals. As always, I love it when a writer manages to capture in words the feelings, tastes, and thoughts that I have also experienced, but have never managed to articulate. Bravo!

I think we enjoy and savour these rituals because we didn't always have them.

I'm new to your posts and am enjoying then thoroughly. Your former neighbour Lynda had sent me one and now I am hooked.

I also read Heather Cox Richardson and learn so much from her calm, clear explanations of past American history and how it relates to today's headlines.. Much needed clarity for sure. I love your observations and they make me feel like we're sitting over a cup of tea, chatting.

I look forward to your weekly column. I was a huge fan of your in laws and was so thankful to have been able to "be" at Sheila's funeral even though I am out of town.

Have a good week

Most sincerely

Thank you so much for the support. I’m always looking stories I can share. We all have stories if you want to write.

I love your stories! Thank you.

I also have read Heather Cox Richardson for a long time. I find her hopeful amid the American chaos.

Yours is a life of gratitude. Beautiful piece. My mornings here in Nashville are much the same except I drink tea.

Ah... one of my favorite advantages of retirement - leisurely morning coffee (even if mine comes from a Keurig)!
