This is such a beautiful piece. Thank you so much for sharing it <3

In case it interests you, I have a book newsletter (bookcrumbs) where I write super short book reviews that don't spoil a whole lot. There's also a song and film pairing for each book that fits the flavour profile™. Just sharing it here to get the word out :)

Yes, yes and yes to grandparents breaking the rules - Nanny is a repository of illicit chocolates!

I love my grandson to infinity and beyond and at 5, he doesn't seem to have twigged that my energy isn't as boundless as his - best thing not being thought of as too old. But I know it's coming...

"Heaven's to Betsy..." I'd completely forgotten the expression. One grandmother embroidered, sewed, hung her wash on a line, cooked a mean pot roast and lemon cake with brown sugar icing - she didn't drive. She was a wonderful woman who stayed silent much of the time when my brother and I were arguing. She rarely offered an opinion but she included us in her nesting.

The other grandma drove a convertible up and down the freeways of California, jumped on Greyhound buses and traveled one coast to the other, rarely hit a kitchen to cook other than to make a sandwich, and sent us postcards and letters from everywhere she traveled. In the end my uncle had to put grandma's convertible on cement blocks so she couldn't steal the car and drive away. When my brother and I argued she'd pull out a $5 bill and tell us to "hush."

The two were so different and both priceless influences in my life.

That pink slipper on and off the narrator’s foot! Love the trip down memory lane as the grandmother sits in the driver’s seat.

A story by an elder: every line well seasoned with wisdom, caring, courage, love, and pleasantness. What a way to start this Sunday. Thank you 🙏💚

A very sweet read. We, of a considerable age, must make ourselves less so that our children and grandchildren can be more. There is real joy in that. Thank you for a lovely story.

A tender and wise insight into a gran's love for her grandkids and toward her own gran.

The picture is painted with a soft brush.
